Suspending a Contact

The status of a Contact controls if Messages can be sent to that Contact. When a new Contact is created, the status is enabled by default. A status of suspended means that messages cannot be sent to that Contact.

In cases where Contacts are required to opt-in to receive communications, they will be marked as suspended until they have opted-in. When a Contact unsubscribes their status will be marked as suspended.

Always suspend a Contact rather than deleting if possible. Suspending a contact will preserve their history and any knowledge collected about them. Deleting a contact will permanently remove these details.

For example, if a contact is deleted and later rejoins the database, all contact details and information about the Contact's history with the company will be lost. In this scenario, suspending and then re-enabling a Contact will allow any history to be retained.

To suspend a Contact

  1. Open the Contact's record for modification.
  2. On the Details view, click the Properties tab.
  3. In the Status list, click Suspended.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. The Contact's Summary view will be loaded, and the Status Bar will be updated to reflect the current status.
