FiltersFilters define a set of rules or conditions to form a group of Contacts. For example, you may define a Filter to find all Contacts that are 25 and older or another Filter to find all Contacts that live in San Francisco. A Filter can have a single criteria, as in the previous examples, or it can combine several criteria together to perform a more complex query. For example, a Filter may be defined to find all male Contacts that are 25 and older and live in San Francisco. Filters can be utilized throughout the management console to define search criteria or to specify Message targeting. It is important to note that any targeting or groups of Contacts returned by a Filter are dynamic. This means that the same Contacts may not be matched by a Filter on one day as are matched the next. For example, a Filter matching Contacts who are 40 years old may return different Contacts each time it is applied, as some Contacts may have turned 40 and others 41. There are times when a static group of Contacts may be a better option for customer segmentation. For example, an opt-in subscription to receive a monthly newsletter. In this scenario a List would be the best management console feature to use.
