Search Panel

The Search Panel is visible in most views and is normally displayed with a Component List in the main application Workspace. After performing a search, the Component List will display results matching your search criteria.

The exact search options that are available differ depending on the type of items that you are currently viewing. In most cases these fields will be searched:

  • ID
  • Name
  • Description
  • Alpha ID (when available)

If you know the ID of an item you are trying to find then enter this as the search criteria to quickly locate the item.

When searching for Contacts or other items that allow you to specify a field to match against, it is recommended practice to specify a field to search against. Failure to do so when searching large data sets may result in searches that take a long time to return.

To perform a standard search

  1. From the Search Panel, enter the text you would like to match against in the Search For text box.
  2. If searching for Contacts, click the drop-down arrow to see the available fields and then click the field you would like to search against.
  3. Click the Find button.
  4. Results will be displayed in the Component List.

Attribute matches are not case sensitive. This means that searching for the term john smith will return the same results as searching for John Smith.

Advanced searches allow additional criteria to be specified in order to further refine your results. Similarly to standard searches, the exact search options that are available differ depending on the type of items that you are currently viewing.

To perform an advanced search

  1. From the Search Panel, enter the text you would like to match against in the Search For text box.
  2. If searching for Contacts, click the drop-down arrow to see the available fields and then click the field you would like to search against.
  3. Click the Advanced link. The Search Panel will expand to display the advanced search options.

  4. Enter the additional criteria as applicable. Advanced searches for most items allow you to specify the field to order the results by.
  5. Click the Find button.
  6. The Search Panel will contract to show just the standard search options again and results will be displayed in the Component List.

You can use the * character as a wildcard to specify a partial match within a field. For example, sm*th matches smith or smythe

When performing an advanced search, you can click outside of the Search Panel to contract the panel without performing a search. If a standard search is not returning the results you expected, check that no advanced criteria have been specified and accidentally hidden away.
